LANADOL APRET — Finishing And Fibre Protection
APRET is the product most plants underestimate. It does not clean anything — it decides how much work the garment takes once it comes out of the machine.
What it does
LANADOL APRET goes into the final bath, after cleaning. It lays down a temporary film on the fibre surface, and that film does four jobs:
- Protects against shrinkage during drying. This is the big one. Most of the damage people blame on wet cleaning happens in the dryer, not the washer. On wool, the felting risk drops considerably.
- Improves wrinkle recovery. The garment comes out with fewer set creases, so it needs less time on the press. This is where the finishing labour saving actually comes from.
- Gives a full, elastic handle. Outerwear and tailoring come back feeling right rather than washed.
- Prevents static. Both through drying and in wear afterwards.
There is a fifth benefit that shows up on the next visit: the film makes the textile more resistant to moisture, so stains and soil penetrate less deeply and come out more easily the following time.

One practical note on dosing: APRET needs to be at least 15°C to meter accurately through a pump system. A drum stored in a cold corner of the plant over winter will under-dose without anyone noticing, and the first sign will be garments taking longer on the press.
Why skipping it is a false economy
We see plants trial wet cleaning with AKTIV or X-PRESS alone, conclude the finishing takes too long, and go back to solvent. Almost every time, APRET was not in the process.
The wash is not where wet cleaning wins or loses against dry cleaning — the finishing is. A cleaner running the full process gets garments that press quickly and hold their shape. A cleaner running detergent only gets garments that need to be fought with. Same machine, same cycle time, completely different labour cost per piece.
